Terracotta is a type of ceramic made from special red and brown clays. This material is shaped into the desired tile design and then is allowed to dry. After that, it is fired, either in a kiln or in a combustible pit. Firing the clay makes it hard, and durable, allowing it to serve as flooring. It can then be glazed to make it impervious to stains, sealed to protect it from damage, or left untreated in its natural state. Terracotta tends to have an old world charm, that can be swept across a room when it is used as flooring. The material has a rough, rustic feel to it, that is both rugged and subdued all at once. This can be increased, or decreased, by purchasing handmade or machine cut pieces. This material is a great choice for rustic or natural settings, as well as log cabin style decors. It is popular in living rooms, kitchen backsplash and as flooring for enclosed porches. Warmer than stone or glazed ceramic, it is also perfect for a hearth and home earth tone decor.

Unique, valued and durable products of extraordinary character and versatility.

… and Exteriors

Terracotta is a very suitable product for exterior use, from floorings to facade claddings for exteriors. Gardens and terraces, pavements, squares and street furniture. Equally effective for renovation and new building and bioarchitecture. In Florence the cupola of Florence Dome and the roofs of the town are in red terracotta tiles. Near Venice terracotta is ochre as the shade of the bricks used over centuries to construct homes of that region. Faraway, in Beijing, the ancient streets of the town are paved with small tiles in a light grey color, manufactured by firing clay in traditional kilns heated by wood, a process which has been used for thousands of years and which is still working today.
During the realization of terracotta projects, Atlantic Link choose Palagio for its long process of research and because has learnt to reproduce the terracotta colors known in different places of the world.

Through the addition of metal oxides and the calibrated dosing of other clays during our mixing process, a range of colors can be obtained which can always give an inspiration to the Designer for the realization of his project.
